Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Welcome back to Spring 2 - the really hard work starts now!

As you are probably aware, SATs are just around the corner. We have this short half term and then just FOUR weeks after Easter. We need to make sure we are all fully supporting the children in the final part of their journey. They are all working so hard and continue to try and be 'the best that they can be'. Please continue to support and encourage them at home. I will be holding a SATs meeting one evening during this half term. Please look out for a date and time conformation of them

I know now the children really well and the types of learners they are, therefore the English and Maths I teach will be based both around the tests and Year 6 objectives in an enriched and exciting way. There will be a big focus on the tests for the next few weeks and the children will complete several practise papers, which I know they enjoy doing as their scores continue to climb and they continue to have a positive working attitude.

The children will be having comparing what they've learnt about Islam to Christianity in RE and having the opportunity to discuss important things in SMSC sessions.  Our theme is still ‘Invasion’ based on the book ‘The Rabbits’ by John Marsden and Shaun Tan. In Science our focus will move to Electricity. We will be moving more towards Geography for this half term, focusing on Global Warming. P.E is on a Tuesday and Friday but as always this can change so could you please ensure that P.E bags are in school for the week. Children will also be having a Comprehension Session with Ms Cynthia Wardle on a fortnightly basis to help with their preparation for their Reading SAT. They will continue to receive Maths Booster on a weekly basis (this may change to a Monday evening after Easter for those final four weeks).

Children may bring their own stationery in a pencil case, which can stay in their desk. They are old enough to be responsible for their own property. As they are the oldest children in the school, I expect them to set a good example to all those younger than them in everything that they do.

Some children will continue come into school 5 minutes early on a daily basis to practise their handwriting.

Homework will continue as alternating weeks of English and Maths. If you wish to give your child more homework, I highly recommend the CPD book range for SATs revision!

Please feel free to come and see me at any time and discuss any queries you might have. However, you can also speak to me during Parents Evening on 6th/7th March.

I look forward to another hard-working halfnterm ahead.
