The children have been extremely lucky over the past few weeks as we have had some parent volunteers come in and help us learn about our bodies. First of all, Mr Rowley (a paramedic) came in for an afternoon to teach all of our children CPR. We can now save lives!
A few weeks later, Mrs Godwin (a midwife) taught the class all about how science is used in every aspect of her job. She brought in urine samples that we tested to identify any issues - don’t worry, they were fake! Mrs Godwin then allowed the children to experience a range of scientific equipment used in her job (mercury sphygmomanometer, ultrasound equipment, ophthalmoscope, stethoscope, pinard horn). She showed them real samples of BLOOD and the children also carried out a series of fun mini-investigations.
Thank you both for enhancing our learning, and emphasising the importance of science!
