As you are probably aware, Year 6 is a very important year, with a considerable amount of work to get through. We will spend the first few weeks getting back into the swing of things and getting used to new routines, but as the work load begins to increase, we will give your child the help and support that they will need in order to make as much academic process as possible. We are lucky to have an entire year six class, supported by myself and Mrs Smithson.
In Literacy and Maths, children will be set individual targets from a close analysis of Year 5 assessment scores and initial Year 6 assessment. High expectations and a positive approach to the curriculum will be evident throughout.
The children will be developing their team skills in P.E, finding out about Christianity in RE and having the opportunity to discuss important things in PSHE sessions, all taught by myself. Our lessons will be taking a thematic approach this year, where we will study a thoughtful picture book and creating writing and learning around it. Our first theme will be ‘Cast Aways’ based on the book ‘The Island’ by Armin Greder. In Science we will be learning about living things and life cycles that live on Islands and compare these with several other habitats. We will be studying Geography for the first half of the term, looking at Islands: their formation and how there are inhabited. P.E is on a Tuesday and Friday but as always this can change so could you please ensure that P.E bags are in school for the week.
Children may bring their own stationery in a pencil case, which can stay in their desk. They are old enough to be responsible for their own property. As they are the oldest children in the school, I expect them to set a good example to all those younger than them in everything that they do.
