Welcome back! I hope you have all had a lovely summer holiday and are ready for the new school year ahead.
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of their support in making their child’s first day back to school a huge success! All of the children looked fantastic and they really embraced the Harry Potter theme. We all certainly had a very magical day! ☺
As you are probably aware, Year 5 is a very important year with a considerable amount of work as they become prepared for Year 6. We are fortunate that Year 5 are remaining as a single cohort, whereby Mrs Evans and I will provide as much support as possible for all of your children.
Our lessons will be taking a thematic approach this year, where we focus on a thoughtful picture book and create writing and learning around it. Our theme this term is ‘Hocus Pocus’ and this will be linked across many subjects where possible. Our creative writing will be based on the book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ by JK Rowling. Science will consist of ‘Herbology’ lessons studying the life-cycles of animals from Harry Potter – whilst not forgetting the wonderful Mandrakes! PE will be in the form of ‘Quidditch’, where the children will learn how to play Dodgeball and develop many skills. Hopefully they can avoid the dreaded bludgers! Finally, the children will be given Spanish lessons initially learning ‘Greetings’ before moving onto their first Unit ‘Do you have any pets?’
Mrs Brown will be teaching Christianity in RE, Computing and Music every Thursday morning.
I will be holding a welcome meeting in Year 5 on Friday 15th September straight after school, where I will be providing more information about the curriculum and my expectations for the school year.
I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
